We can all assume that he will make Noah go crazy then die at the end of the film, right?
I've enjoyed many of his films, but for some reason they fail to hit me on a gut level.
He makes cliches work. I can't believe I like his movies (except Pi, which is easy to believe:)
I saw him at a Meet the Director in NY. He pretentiously insulted his earlier works, (i.e. Requiem for a Dream and Pi) and went on to explain how he was making "real films" now. He said, "Those movies are embarrassing. That was another me, a kid." What the hell is he going on about? So you have Natalie Portman starring as a sexually confused minx in your higher budget film, so what? Fuck off, Aronofsky.
I'm not impressed with the amount of hate for Darrenofsky on here. He is a brilliant director, and how anyone can watch 'The Wrestler' and claim this man is talentless is beyond me.
He has some earlier student projects preceding "Pi" that should be up here.
I agree with Max. I know there are a lot of haters for some reason toward his work on this site but I am not embarrassed to say that I think this man is a total genius and among the best filmmakers we have today.
How anyone would take someone who compares films to amusement park rides seriously is beyond me.
i don't buy this idea that he is just a showy technician. his reach is grand, sometimes grander than his talent and that seems to piss people off, but when it works (to my mind requiem and black swan are his best so far) his films are transfixing and exhilirating experiences.
His films are useless, empty fireworks, flash and dazzle, a waste of time and resources. Those ones and zeroes could be put to so much better use.
he is very good at making films that once i see i never want to see them again.
My favorite director. I haven't seen all his films yet but if and when I do im betting he will still be my favorite.
Wow, Black Swan.... wow. The Fountain being my favorite film of 2006 and Black Swan may be my favorite of 2010.
Black Swan is his masterpiece. I love all of his films but Black Swan beats them all. Its his most mature and well crafted film.
