Biography

Mikkelsen was born in the Østerbro area of Copenhagen, the son of a cab driver. After attending Århus Theatre School, he made his film debut in the movie Pusher. He has starred in popular Danish movies such as Flickering Lights (Danish: Blinkende Lygter) and The Green Butchers (Danish: De Grønne Slagtere). Arguably, Mikkelsen’s most famous role was as a cop in the Danish television series Unit One (Danish: Rejseholdet). He also starred as Tristan in the Jerry Bruckheimer production of King Arthur, as well as playing the villain Le Chiffre in the 21st James Bond film, Casino Royale. In 2006 he took the lead role in the Oscar nominated “After the Wedding”. —Wikipedia

he's probably going to be known as the bad guy from Casino royale by a larger world audience. But he's given some great performances down the years in Pusher 1 and 2 (the best one which has him in the lead). Bleeder, Adam apples, after the wedding, open hearts and the green butchers are a few of his great performances. He's yet to be used to his strong points in english speaking roles.

One of my favorites these days. The Pusher Trilogy - which they don't seem to have here, are little gems. And he's so brilliant in all of them. if you got netflix you can stream all three online/xbox/roku/playstation and watch them. Saw all 3 over one weekend. Delirious stuff from the mind of great filmaker on the rise. And then there's Mads... pure genious
