I hope so too and I have a feeling it will deliver. Maybe not on the big screen but certainly the directors cut!
great illisionist director. sadly, that's all. but, I think Park Chan-Wook is able to BETTER make Scott's great movie, than Ridley Scott.
He's usually great, but sometimes he chooses to make films that I just can't get behind.
I love the quote chosen for his profile haha. Very appropiate, I think the difference between Ridley's visual sense and others is at least to me in these times it feels like it has artistic and thoughtfulness behind it. To show detail, what's outside the window as he said in writing the script for Blade Runner. The music video graduated directors visualize interest for the sake of it.
Michael he didn't direct the Assassination of Jesse James he produced it. Still where the hell is Kingdom Of Heaven, the directors cut was amazing.
I agree with Clive, it's an awesome quote. I wish they'd add the Director's Cut of "Kingdom of Heaven".
Yeah what is going on here? Its cutting off our comments? Ok so to finish, I thought Kingdom of Heaven the directors cut is an absolute masterpiece, much better than the more popular Gladiator and probably it has to do with Orlando Bloom not having the screen presence of Russell Crowe (and Gladiator having a more simplistic story arc).
Shoot, I loved 1492...I thought it was perfect. All his films like Blade Runner, Alien, Gladiator, Black Hawk Down, American Gangster, and finally, one of my all time favorites: THE ASSASSINATION OF JESSE JAMES BY THE COWARD ROBERT FORD are classics. Ridley Scott is going down in history as one of the greatest directors... He's biggest problem is he gives the viewer too much to look at and over estimates their intelligence. Most viewers would be fine watching a movie on YouTube in 15 10 minute segments, to me this is a crime.
Its amazing when you look at his actual filmography, how many terrible films Ridley Scott is associated with throughout the years (GI Jane, Legend, Black Rain, 1492) and how there is only really 3-4 films that have cemented his reputation. I just had an opportunity to see the director's cut of Kingdom of Heaven and I think that film has to rank as one of his best films, just below Alien and Blade Runner (admittedly I have not seen the Duelist). It reminded me of an old-school studio epic in the best ways.
God, he has got to be the most refreshing director today. While he has had his share of average films-at least he acknowledges the real world. His talk of the camera as one's weapon is the Director's mantra. "Have a better one."
Blade Runner is a masterpiece but Ridley Scott is no master. Gladiator is just a terrible movie.
I wrote my under grad thesis on blade runner. One of the best movies of all time. He is a masterful director.
I was the first in Italy to write a thesis for graduate about R. Scott, and I'm still admire him.. and it's passed on about 30 years!!!
