Federico Fellini and Hou Hsiao-hsien was known 'what is commercial film?' very well. John Ford and Hitchcock was also.
I have just finished to watch some other footage of him speaking about film-making and his idea of the artist. I was only six-teen when I realized... God, if I was right... he is not just the greatest director ever existed... he is more than that! He is a genius... FEDERICO FELLINI IS THE CINEMA!!!
Even though it was just a TV documentary, I'd still like to see A Director's Notebook up here ...
I'm still waiting for "Il Bidone".I've always believed that "Il Bidone" is among the greatest Fellini, and it's a pity that this movie never became so famous,as some of his other movies.
Addition of L'Intervista and La Voce Della Luna would make this a much happier Fellini profile.
“Sacrosanti fischi a Milano!” Fellini, la critica, l’Italia e La dolce vita: 1960-2010 Sabato 3 ottobre 2009, ore 15.00. Auditorium San Fedele Milano http://www.sanfedele.net/news_singola.asp?codice=1
Fellini's films - whether elliptical, impressionistic or narrative - have an emotional truth which resonates deeply in the mind - and which Hollywood has very seldom achieved - certainly not at all in recent years.....
Yes, he is among the two or three best directors in Cinema history. His magical brand of cinema will be with me til the day I die. What gifts he gave us! His work with Giulietta Masina, the greatest actress ever ~and Fellini's wife~ is especially endearing. Thank you Federico, for everything you gave us. And Thank You Criterion Collection for giving us his most beautiful films in absolutely wonderful editions, esp. 8 1/2, Juliet of the Spirits, I Vitelloni and Amarcord. The artwork is gorgeous! Anyone who doesn't have these...buy them immediately.
There is no one that can do what he did because we have become a world of instant gratification and computer graphics. The patience and planning implied in his work makes it seem painterly.....but, it was all truly real.
I agree. He simply is the best director in the world bar-none! No one does what he did.
