Biography

A member of the famed Newman dynasty of Hollywood composers and industry players, Thomas Newman provided memorable scores for such hit films as “American Beauty” (1999), “Erin Brockovich” (2000), “Finding Nemo” (2004) and “WALL-E” (2008), as well as the theme for the television series “Six Feet Under” (HBO, 2001-05). Newman’s signature sound brought together the past, present and future of film composition – a blend of traditional orchestral score and electronic sounds with elements that incorporated non-Western and manipulated instruments. The results were frequently haunting and hypnotic and the slew of major awards and accolades they generated helped to cement his status as one of Hollywood’s most accomplished and innovative composers.

Thomas Newman's work can be like an overwhelming riptide carrying you out to the middle of a vast emotional ocean... several of my favorite films would simply be incomplete without his score's - as if one of the central characters had been omitted.
