Hahaha
Alright, he may not be the sole greatest living American director but he atoned his Ali / Miami Vice sins with Public Enemies. I applaud his digital cinematography ambition too since he is one of the few who's getting it right over there in Tinseltown.
In a way, I agree with Bobby Wise. Although "Public Enemies" was decent, it felt more like a Johnny Depp film that just happened to be directed by Michael Mann than a sole Mann effort.
In America, there's Michael Mann, and then there's everyone else. Vote Mann in Round 3!
I know a lot of people don't see it that way but for me there are very few artists working in the film world right now that interst me as much as Michael Mann.
Wow... I fucking hate Roscoe's opinions. That's beyond shocking to me. Michael Mann could easily be the greatest American director working today. The audacity of his last to films (Public Enemies included) are breathing new life into the medium.
I've never seen anything close to a disappointing performance in his actors. Great display of visual sensibilities with respect to time and place.
