Even in a world of good filmmakers, he'd still be a master.
In a world of bad fimakers like Michael Bay ,David Cronenberg is a true master
Horror as what that psychologically implies; Drama as a series of expectations and failures. One of the best and smartest living directors.
I totally agree with something Cronenberg said about himself in a speech: he is a kind of art criminal who invested in "the tension that exists between the innate wildness of the art and the desired order of society. The crimes of art, the crimes of transgression, are not against the known laws of society, but against the unknown laws, the secret laws".
O homem bate mal.
Was originally supposed to be Colin Ferrell - an idea I like better but he dropped out, along with Marion Cotillard who was to co-star. Now it is as you mentioned: Pattinson and also Keira Knightley.
As much as I don't like the cast so far, I feel like I have to trust the decisions made. Perhaps I am too optimistic about this film's potential.
Cronenberg is one of the greatest and most unique horror directors out there today. His style is consistent and maintains an artistic direction as well as a commitment to making good, thrilling horror films.
He is a wonderful director through and through but the body horror genre is his crowning achievement. I would even consider Naked Lunch, Dead Ringers, and Crash body horror films despite their dramatic narratives. Horror fiction can be very subtle.
As much as I wish he'd stop doing Oscar bait and go back to body horror, I have to admit that even his Oscar bait is pretty fly.
Could we get Shivers entered into the library? Definitely my favourite from Cronenberg's very early work.
