She was melodramatic and over the top in "A Single Man" too- ( terrible performance)

While prolific and award winning, critically acclaimed and rightfully so for a handful of select roles - The Hours, A Single Man, and Boogie Nights, she can be a bit melodramatic for my taste.

She's done some stunning work over the past two decades. Love her in Far From Heaven, The Hours, Short Cuts, Vanya on 42nd Street, The End of the Affair, and also some of her more bafflingly underrated roles like Blindness. Very funny in The Big Lebowski too. Her brilliant Carol White in Safe, though, is one of those rare film performances that make me go "How did she do that?" Looking forward to seeing her in The Kids are All Right later this year!
