presumably when John Ford directed his last westerns...it was the end of a generation of silent film directors, etc...he could have said 45, or 55 or 59...
i can watch everyday over and over Aki Kaurismäki's films, i think he is very cool, genius and unique.
I agree with ELOI MV that the Eclipse set is a really accessible way to get into his stuff, and Ariel or Shadows in Paradise are a good place to start. After that, if you liked the goofy comedy aspects, try the Leningrad Cowboys, but if the bleakness resonated more, then maybe Tatjana.
