"With my heart full of gratitude for everything good in the world, I'll put down my pen. Now excuse me, I have to go." It's almost one year you have passed away, and I still watch your movies with MY HEART full of gratitude for everything beautiful you did.

Monsieur Zom and 7 others like this

Doctor Sodoma, Mongreloid, Echydo, Trevor, Vaare, rado, a Smith

Satoshi is the best, when i first watch Paranoia Agent on TV back in the days, i wanted to know who had done that master piece of animation, and my whole crew freakin with it. All I can say falls short to describe this genius; R.I.P. Satoshi Kon...

If you're interested, I put up a new list based on the 100 films Satoshi Kon listed on his website a week before he passed away. Some of the Japanese films are not on MUBI (and may not have been released outside of Japan).

i don't think i have ever been this upset about about someone i never met, passing away. i honestly almost cried when i hear about his death. he has been, since the day i picked out Perfect Blue on a store shelf as a high school student of 16, to finally finding a used copy of World Apartment Horror from a bookseller in Japan several months ago at age 26, one of not only my biggest influences as an illustrator, but one of my biggest inspirations for enjoyment in every medium he worked in. he was proof that if you put in the work, love what you do, and let yourself imagine, great things will happen to you. RIP doesn't seem like enough.

Little known fact about PERFECT BLUE; Darren Aronofsky paid almost 50000$ to borrow the bathtub scene crying scene for his movie REQUIEM FOR A DREAM.
