A master, one of the great film actors. He can do anything, elevating even the smallest role into something fine and memorable. His tiny cameo role in STRAY DOG is a marvel, and his brilliant work as the monk in RASHOMON and in comic roles in SEVEN SAMURAI and HIDDEN FORTRESS is as good as anything anyone's ever done.
