Amanda’s most recent film is An Education, written by the best-selling writer Nick Hornby and directed by Lone Scherfig (Italian For Beginners), based on a short piece of memoir by acclaimed journalist Lynn Barber, which she produced with Finola Dwyer (Backbeat, Me Without You). Along with US producer Alan Greenspan, Amanda developed and was one of the producers on the US remake of Fever Pitch (2005) for Fox 2000, adapted by Lowell Ganz and Babaloo Mandel (Parenthood, City Slickers) and directed by the Farrelly Brothers (There’s Something About Mary, Dumb & Dumber). Set in Boston, it’s the story of an obsessive fan of the Red Sox baseball team and the woman who falls for him played by Jimmy Fallon and Drew Barrymore. Nick Hornby, the original screenwriter, also executive produced.
Amanda’s previous producer credits include Fever Pitch (1997), the first production under her own company Wildgaze Films, starring Colin Firth, written by Nick Hornby (based on his best-selling memoir), directed by David Evans, and financed by Channel 4 Films.
Fever Pitch was executive produced by Stephen Woolley and Nik Powell, who were also executive producers on Five Seconds To Spare (1999) which Amanda produced for Scala/Wildgaze. Starring Ray Winstone, Andy Serkis and Max Beesley, it was directed by newcomer Tom Connolly and written by Tom Connolly and Jonathan Coe, based on Coe’s cult novel ‘The Dwarves of Death’.
Amanda’s earlier film credits include working for producer Stephen Woolley on Neil Jordan’s Oscar-winning The Crying Game, as well as the Geffen/Warner Bros. film Interview With The Vampire, followed by heading up development for Stephen Woolley and Nik Powell at Scala Productions.
Amanda, alongside producing partner Finola, are also Creative Consultants on The Story Works, a new and innovative screenwriters’ initiative run in conjunction with Edinburgh International Film Festival. —The Script Factory
