Serra Yilmaz studied Psychology at Université de Caen in France. She worked for the Istanbul City Theater for many years as dramaturgist, actress, and Assistant Art Director, and then directed Rainer Werner Fassbinder’s "Ali: Fear Eats the Soul "
She has appeared in numerous films and television programs in Turkey. In 1999, she appeared in Ferzan Ozpetek’s Harem Suaré and subsequently in Le Fate Ignoranti (His Secret Life), and continues to perform in both Turkey and Italy. She received the Best Actress Award at the 21st Istanbul Film Festival in 2002 and Best Supporting Actress Award at the 36th Antalya Film Festival in 1999. She is the recipient of the Palmes Académiques honor in France and the Ordine della Stella della Solidarieta honor in Italy in 2007.
