Surrealism, nightmarescapes and an absolute terror of bodily destruction; Fulci's vast narrative shortcomings become largely irrelevant in his strongest films. Rather, they are marked by expressive mise en scene and a sense of dream logic, usually cataclysmic spectacles of despairing horror. Probably the true master of gore.
