Tarkowsky's "Ivan's Childhood" (1962) owes so much to the work of Jerzy Wojcik in "Ashes and Diamonds" (1958) it's unbelievable. The blocking, depth of field and camera movements of the interior sequences in both movies are still the most efficient and fluent sequences I've seen in a very long time. And Haneke in "The White Ribbon" (2009) it's just a new interpretation of the lighting, simplicity and composition of Wojcik's work in "Mother Joan of the Angels" (1961). Both brilliant movies, but in my opinion, "Mother Joan of the Angels" is way more disturbing.
