really??
Although I like a lot of his movies, King Kong is still probably my favorite. I love how Peter Jackson's movies are able to have special effects, character development, and overall character relationships work together perfectly. I am not a fan of movies that completely depend on the special effects, i love it when there is an actual connection between characters. King Kong may be animated but you still get that connection between Naomi Watts and Kong.
Ten years ago Peter changed my way of viewing and approaching film with his monumental trilogy. Now I'm looking forward to 'The Hobbit' with baited breath.
I just saw all three Lord of the Rings films in a theater back to back and it was incredible. The man is a genius and should be considered so just based on that trilogy alone.
Except Josh that his films are anything but flavourless tripe... He is still making films he loves and the way he wants. Unlike most hollywood schlock they aren't designed around focus groups and certain demographics. They may not be for you but they are however films that he himself enjoys watching at the end of the day and I do too.
His quotation basically sums up why his films and Hollywood in general are anti-art pulp products: without auteurs we have films that try to appeal to too many people at once, becoming flavourless tripe in the process. I'll forever be bitter towards this website for changing its name and philosophy from 'theauteurs' to 'mubi'.
Siebold chooses a unique way to tell Susie Salmon's story. Director Peter Jackson would be a great choice to direct SHAMBLES when it's made into a movie with Saoirse Ronan as the young Megan Brooks. Check it out at www.shamblesthebook.webs.com
Peter, I just read THE LOVELY BONES last week and all I can say I was struck by how cinematic the feel of the novel is. Were you struck by this as well on your first reading of the book? How did you decide what parts and characters in THE LOVELY BONES are included in your adaptation of the book. Finally how did you address Susie returning to earth to make love to Ray?
With the LORD OF THE RINGS films and KING KONG behind you, THE LOVELY BONES is another film of yours based upon previous material. How do you approach a story or film that was created by someone else when you set out to make it?
I had a few questions about The Lovely Bones and please excuse the frankness of them. Thanks! 1) Is it said in the movie like the book that Susie was raped? 2) Does that dog find the body part like in the book? Overall, the movie trailer looks AMAZING and I was surprised to learn that you directed the Lord of the Rings films which were mind blowing so I'm thinking and hoping this movie will be too! Thanks for bringing it to life!! It seems like there are some fantastic actors in it especially Susie's character; it seems like you nailed that!
