Axel Prahl was born in Eutin in 1960, and grew up in Neustadt i. Holstein. He graduated from acting school in the city of Kiel and then played on stage in Kiel and Berlin. Since the beginning of the 90’s he has appeared in numerous TV and big screen productions. In 2001, he received the Adolf Grimme Award in gold in the ‘Best Actor’ category for his performance in POLICEWOMAN. In 2002, he received the Bavarian Film Award as ‘Best Actor’ for his role in Andreas Dresen’s GRILL POINT, as well as the ‘Best Actor’ award from the French Festival Cinessonne, and the ‘Silver Hugo’ for ‘Best Ensemble’. In 2003, he again received the Adolf Grimme Award in Gold for his performance in DIE HOFFNUNG STIRBT ZULETZT. Since 2002, he has regularly appeared as Detective Frank Thiel in the TV crime series TATORT (SCENE OF CRIME).
