I think Zach Snyder is worse
When he's old and on his last days of life, he will surprise all of us with an art film. A fucking troll, he is.
The worst director working today. Can't think of someone who has ruined more movie franchises in the last decade.
Has great abs, worth hundreds of millions, bangs supermodels, makes films that are equal in both goosebumps and fistpumps. Haters gonna hate.
One of the bigger black tumors populating the colon of the film world, producing the ever growing stream of black cancerous shit.
I often flirt with the idea of joining the masses and proclaiming a hatred of Michael Bay. But while he definitely has some questionable artistic choices here and there, I simply can't deny the fact that I find his movies ridiculously entertaining. Sometimes I like my movies to be big loud and dumb and a quick shot of Bayhem is the guaranteed way to get a satisfying fix. Plus nobody can deny that he sure as shit knows how to shoot a thrilling action sequence. Love him or hate him, he's the best at what he does.
I'm an honest f-a-n of Michael Bay ever since I saw The Rock when I was 15 years old. This dude has Criterion Editions of his films...someone like that cannot be all that bad, IMHO.
Well the Criterion thing is no valid point for anything but I also like Michael Bay legitimately since I saw Armageddon when I 12.People should realize whether they'd like to or not that Bay is actually an auteur in the solid definition of the word
That's precisely the problem people seem to think something is not as good or not valid until Criterion releases it. Many other dvd labels that are not Criterion have releases (although obviously most of the time inferior versions) by the same directors or movies that Criterion features. Just the fact that Bay IS on the label whether he paid them a load of money to have them release it (which is what I heard) or some of the staff their are just cool, open minded movie lovers still brings loyal followers of the Collection to their knees with disbelief. Don't get me wrong I can see the other side of the fence where Criterion's goal is to potentially expose to their fanbase a hidden genius by giving treatment to let's say a movie like Robocop but the fact of the matter is at the end of the day Criterion is a business like any other and they need to stay afloat and especially now since their IFC deal brings them a whole slew of movies that appeal to a more "mainstream" crowd. In a way they're broadening their fanbase but at the same time they need money. I don't think a movie like Tiny Furniture is valid in any way but Criterion is putting it out soon and it will not change my mind just because there's a wacky C on it. Funny thing is I couldn't tell you how many times I've read on the criterionforum board or on DVD reviews the following quote: "I didn't like _______ but I'll rewatch it because Criterion is putting it out" yikes
Well Yeah. Yes and no (Bay was added on to their stock prior to the new managerial decisions tho) I did not say, a Criterion release makes a film better, only that those guys have a huge bundle of genius films and cinematic gems, The IFC deal does worsen their catalog, yes. As MUBI worsened when it changed from the Auteurs to this MUBI. Money rules the world, there's really nothin' one can do. They still lack many films, but they do a superb job with their transfers and they respect their filmmakers, the Cahiers du Cinéma, loved everything, every film and movie (they taught us that much, at least...) "of the Collection to their knees with disbelief" I don't know about this, it's not bad just because Rosembaum or the cannon do not rave about it...RoboCop is a little too crappy even if you insert "author theory". There are bad movies and films and overrated films on Criterion sure, but my point is that Bay is better than most people give him credit for. Not that Criterion are gods and never make mistakes, they to make compromises and sometimes, bad ones at that...but still the "I'll rewatch it because Criterion is putting out" is actually good, anything that makes people re-watch a movie and re-think their feelings toward a film, is a good thing, any day, for me, that is...
I actually don't think the IFC deal ruined much at all but the thing is people re-watching stuff because Criterion is putting it out already has a certain bias to it. What if Criterion lost the rights to something they tried to acquire but not released yet and another company picked it up and let's say delivered an SE that was every bit as good as Criterion would do there would be a lot of people not wanting to watch or re-watch that movie because "it's not on criterion"
I love to hate this guy but is not the worst director ever, that would mean giving him too much credit. His quote is hysterical.
Maybe he set up 170 e-mail accounts, then set up 170 accounts on MUBI, and hit "BECOME A FAN" 170 times ;)
i find the fact that he is not a parody the most hilarious thing the world can give.
God.. with a quote like that (“Fast cars are my only vice.”) no wonder his movies suck...
