Wang Bing (Chinese: 王兵; pinyin: Wáng Bìng) (born 1967 in Shaanxi) is a Chinese director, often referred to as one of the foremost figures in documentary film-making. Wang is the founder of his own production company, Wang Bing Studios, which produces most of his films. Wang’s 9 hour epic documentary of industrial China, Tie Xi Qu was considered a major success. Tie Xi Qu went on to win the Grand Prix at the Marseille Festival of Documentary Film and was shown for the first time in Spain at the Punto de Vista International Documentary Film Festival. Wang’s film, Fengming, a Chinese Memoir, premiered at both Cannes and Toronto in 2007. More recently Crude Oil premiered at the 2008 Rotterdam Film Festival. —Wikipedia
Is there anybody who can point me to a torrent, stream or really anything of Wang Bing's? I'm most anxious to see Tie Xi Qu, but I'd settle for any of his work.
The surprise Film at Venice Film Festival happened to be the first fiction by Wang Bing.English title is The ditch. What a great movie! I was afraid Wang Bing would loose all his unaffected and subtle "regard" in the transition from documentary to fiction but I was mistaken. The film is great without showing. It is a sure, straight path through the slow resignation to death of his characters. And there are no protagonist so that humanity is the real character portrayed here. Prepare to watch the most incredible use of darkness on screen i've seen in ages. At the same time I'm reaslly impress by the complete absence of all the rethoric of realism. He is a true metteur en scene.
