Even more fun fact. He criticized the film for its violence and acting but overall he was impressed.
An artisan if not an artist. He may be the biggest Hollywood director who ever lived and there is a reason for that. PS fun fact Tarkovsky liked Terminator, "vision of the future and the relation between man and its destiny is pushing the frontier of cinema as an art"
It's hard not to like Cameron and even more difficult to deny his immense talent as a filmmaker. He makes films that command your attention and find their way into the world lexicon - his films are powerful, angry and epic. He is an auteur and perhaps a little full of himself. Still, he is every bit an auteur and whether you dislike the man you simply cannot take away his contribution to cinematic history. We'll be studying him for decades to come.
Hello Aussenseiter, please elaborate if you would. In retrospect I probably should have used the words "acknowledge or appreciate" in place of 'like', but I stand behind the latter - ball park numbers put him just shy of $2 billion in box office receipts. Of course you don't have to like him or his films but you can't dismiss the numbers. Lets not forget Hollywood is a business not a popularity contest. Cheers->
I see your point and agree if we're talking about "artistic merit and importance in regards to their art form" but nevertheless there is a significant cultural and social impact of any art form - even art that we do not agree with or find necessarily palatable. I did not mean to suggest otherwise, especially not that box office receipts has anything to do with the artfulness or lack thereof of a particular quantifiable object of art or the artist associated with it. I'd like to continue this conversation if you're interested - I'm going to send you a message so we can elaborate without the constraints of this comment field. Take care
I loathe this guy, his 3D fascination is sickening, fair enough if he enjoys it, and it's ok for a few blockbusters, but the way he is trying to enforce (yes, ENFORCE) 3D on EVERYTHING makes me sick, far as i'm concerned for the rest of his life he should not be allowed to watch any film not originally released in 3D, as he clearly feels above them... but damnit if The Terminator/T2: Judgement Day aren't two of my favourite films XD
"The Terminator" was very good. "Aliens" was very good. "The Abyss" was acceptable. 20+ years on and the crickets are still chirping for me.
he´s just an overappreciated version of Michael Bay, and he killed solaris, bitch
