luv that quote man! indeed. what else are (we) gonna make movies about. not much else to talk about/film. luv this man.
"I make films about good versus evil, internally and externally. . .what else are you going to make movies about?" --Abel Ferrara
"[Ferrara's] Bronx-bred Catholic guilt and gut-level understanding that what the nuns try to beat out of you always returns with a vengeance . . . "--Amy Taubin
Teniente corrupto es devastadora...otra de mi top ten. El rey de nueva york es absolutamente salvaje...Christopher Walken está inmenso...imperdonable su omisión en esta lista.
@SethKing - I'm not sure if people are going to embrace him as a classic eccentric, like the filmmakers you named below, but he definitely is worthy of his cult following. Ferrara is like a drunken, strung out David Lynch lol.
What happened? Are people really going to let Ferrara go the way of Fuller, Peckinpah, Pasolini, Cassevetes? Are we going to let this filmmaker be seen as a force only by those few that can see it? The above directors, while marginally famous in their time, were only truly recognized after their death. Do not let this happen to Ferrara. Spread the word. His work goes beyond sleaze and vice.
THE FUNERAL! Why isn't The Funeral on the Auteurs? And Mary as well, as a matter of fact.
