City Girl is brilliant. I believe that I can actually see when Murnau doesn’t direct the picture anymore though. His magic is apparent during times of the film, but it doesn’t stay constant throughout the movie.
Does anybody know where I can get ahold of Der Gang in die Nacht?
I need to find a copy of it so I can complete Murnau’s available filmography before March.
Could anyone spare one please? I promise I’ll put it to great use. I’m managing Murnau in the cup, and it’s the only place of heard of that has “Journey into the night” on it. If I have to prove my cinephilia, I will! lol
Haha! appreciate it bro! But someone was kind enough just to send me an invite. Besides, I must get to the finals to show Murnau’s unknown masterpiece!!!!
Well, what I want to point out is that people often overlook Murnau. I feel the need to exploit his classics, and his hidden treasures. I never see him on any great director lists, and he revolutionized film back in the day with Lang and a few other German Auteurs. I firmly believe he was a genius, and that he was one of the greatest directors ever.
Dimitris, If Murnau had made as many films as Bunuel, I wouldn’t have to use any classics. The fact of the matter is that he only made 20 (you could say 21, roughly) and that only 12 survive today. 3 of which, are almost in unviewable prints. That means that I have roughly 9 films to pick from…. So obviously, i’m going to play one or two classics to be able to show those films. If I get knocked out in the first round, I fail representing Murnau. I can’t do that. Sunrise in my opinion is one of the most beautiful, well-made films ever. I want people to live the same magic of it that i get when they view it. But don’t worry…. In the further rounds I will show hidden treasures….
