Great moments and a fantastic use of the sci-fi tropes. Though, I wish it was deeper and had more for the audience to access. Willis is fascinating but ultimately its Gilliam's vision that works best.
Not as good as the french "La Jetée", in which it is inspired, but has nice moments because of the good story. The acting is ok, too.
the airport scene with a slow motion of Stowe’s face gave me chills. “I’m in insurance” fuck yeah.
Oh how I wished this film was about a simian underdog football team with a fedora-wearing chimp coach instead of a dreary dull sci-fi hob-nob.
Still love this film, Gillilam's masterpeice and I think somewhere in my top 50. There are a couple scenes that stood out for me, when Bruce is in the back seat of the car listening to Blueberry Hill, the emotions on his face is just wow. Also the scene where you frist meet's Pitt's character in the mental ward, awesome. This is one of Pitt's best roles and same with Willis, can't believe he wasn't nominated for this.
One of the best mindfuck movies ever (up there with Mulholland Dr., Inception, and its ilk), and Gilliam manages to get Willis to give a great performance. It’s brilliantly written, and all three actors are great. But what’s truly incredible is how Gilliam did it. He didn’t have a whole lot of time, or money, but he makes it look and feel truly extraordinary. A truly great film.
Inspired (and not a remake) of Chris Marker's black and white science fiction film. 12 Monkeys constructed a story line that tries to broaden the 28 minute short film made by Marker. The curiosity is high without fail as it exposed in layers the event leading to the fate of James Cole (Bruce Willis). There is a beautiful madness into it, but nevertheless a madness in an unwavering attempt to solve a mystery.
In my opinion, this is definitely one of the best sci-fi films ever made. Instead of an epic about a post apocalyptic world, this film focus more on the drama of Bruce Willis' character as he travels through time, and attempts to put together pieces of information that will reveal important facts about the past. Every new information he gets, tells us something about the plot of the movie, but we never know the whole story until we've reached the end. And it's worth it! One very nice touch is the use of a tango (Suite Punta del Este) as a main theme for the soundtrack. Just perfect. :)
The film that legitimized Brad Pitt. I'm a sucker for time travel stories and this is a great entry from a cursed director.
