I think that if there had been more of a motive for Sébastien to go to the game/not get the hell out of the building, I feel the film would have been a lot stronger.
Very shallow. The lead character is just plain dumb, the dialogues are futile, and the best parts are a loan from The Deer Hunter. It has some oppressive feel, debtor of french noir, Murnau or even Polanski. But it isn't quite enough to carry all the foolishness of the not-so-promising debut by Babluani (he has done a US remake with Mickey Rourke and that reveals a lot).
i agree with pierre here. a lot of the tension just doesn't have the legs that it should, due to the fact that it's solely following one character. it's a decent film that has its moments, very promising for what i believe is a first feature, but overall it's very predictable and honestly kind of pointless. that's not to say that i hated it, but it's not great by any means.
*Spoiler (maybe)* Bored me to no end. The whole thing is built around the idea that Russian Roulette is intense, but there's no real tension because you're following one protagonist who obviously can't get killed off at any point other than maybe the end. Watch The Deer Hunter again instead.
And also i have to agree with Kaifu, cause seeing this screenshot makes it totaly unwatchable.
I have to say i was quite disappointed, cause some friend recommended this film as really good. First half of the film, where tension is being raised is rather good, but once you know, what "the game" is all about, you know the story. Its just to predictable and to cliché. Some camera work in the film is done quite nice, and black and white technique gives a bit more charm to it, but it's still not a good movie.
