I am proud to say i have seen this film only three times, but I have never seen it on video, and never will.
This movie seriously bored me. I fall asleep every time I try to watch. It is NOT one of the greats IMHO. I would not call it a bad movie, but it just does not capture any of my attention or interest me. Kubrick is like pate or sushi...an acquired taste. I just do not have a taste for many of his films. The man was definitely a genius. His movies just do not interest me one bit. Sorry.
A work of pure art, Kubrick's masterpiece on the folly of mankind, a brilliant vision of the future skillfully crafted not just to tell a story, but to realize humanity's ability for great achievement and simultaneously show how insignificant we actually are.
I first saw this when I was 16 and it convinced me that movies could be more than just entertainment. It's the best ever IMO.
It's the moment when the bone hits the sky... right then I know I'm watching a masterpiece. From there on it's a wonderful dance through space and time.
Stan was a legend. I respect what he brought to the movie industry. He challenged the mainstream and opened our eyes to a totally new perspective. God bless him and his genius work. Ziad Sunna'
This is one of those movies that has become a rite of passage when one is forming their filmic tastes. It's like a litmus test to see if you can handle not only Kubrick's works, but the works of other filmmakers. I have seen this movie about a dozen times and I still enjoy it and still feel the same way I did when I first experienced it.
What else can be said about this piece of artistic cinematography? Probably the best science-fiction movie ever made. Philosophical, visually compelling, hypnotic. This movie is forever, a land marking in the history of cinema. A work of a genius.
It's incredibly difficult to put this film into any words... Magical? Surreal? and yet, Poetic. Possibly the most visually stimulating film I've seen. And don't forget about the score.
This is my Favorite, I was 13 years old when i watched the movie first time.. Imagine the details... there is no sound on the space... awesome!!!
When i was a kid this was the first VHS tape i bought. About two years ago at a film fest i got to see a pristine 70mm print with Jan Harlen introducing and taking questions after....probably my all time favorite film...
I can watch this film over and over again and get a new interpretation of it every time. This is true cinema. Cinema that makes you think about what you just saw for weeks to come.
I remember my Mom taking me to see this movie. I only recently saw it again after all these years and was totally blown away once again!
Stanley Kubrick's ultimate ode to cinema, its an experience that is not supposed to be missed, right from the concept to execution it spells magic dealing with elements ranging between real to surreal; historic and futuristic, life comes full circle literally and metaphorically, my favorite movie #1
The greatest motion picture ever made. A truly cinematic experience. The more you see it, the more you see in it. Kubrick transcended all other science fiction films. There is nothing else like 2001. It is the story of the evolution of mankind. Talk about ambitious!
