(500) Days of Summer is nothing more than a perfect love story that everyone should enjoy. It has good humor, it's a perfect Oscar contender for Best Original Screenplay, and it teaches a lot of good life lessons; for example, to move on.
Interesting, but does not live up to the hype which proceeded the movie. Fantastic soundtrack and a nice script, but much simpler and naive than most people say it is. I just wish I liked it better.
It's a story of every relationship, and every relationship can find a bit of it's ovn story here. Nice. Easy. Watchable.
Cute but boring. The dance sequence is a winner, along with showing off downtown LA in a good light, but the rest is ho hum. Geeky boy gets cute indie girl who is too good for him because she's too pretty/cool/nothing to do with smarts for him. Indie boys will love it for the soundtrack, Zooey Deschanel and because the characters are probably like people they know - but probably not very well.
Cliche story meets Stereotypical characters. Even the talented and the Amazing soundtrack wasn't enough to save the movie! That, or I lost my romantic streak and became a cynic. Either of those! Though, love Regina Spektor's song "Us." Amazing song!
(500) Days of Summer co-writer Scott Neustadter shared the hilarious genesis of the script with MovieMaker at http://www.moviemaker.com/screenwriting/article/500_days_of_summer_scott_neustadter_michael_weber_20090731/
Loved it! Quirky, cute and real! I adored the outfits in the film and the music/soundtrack! Also, I wasn't expecting to see Matthew Gray Gubler in the film so it was a great surprise to an already fabulous story! (Note: I concur with Jye Sherwell's review of this film - below.)
the best movie ive seen this year in the theaters I liked the details for example the joy division and the clash tshirts the starring guy uses all the time and the seventh seal joke fell in love with his character
I saw this with my 20-year old son and we both agreed that it tried too hard to be "hip." The skinny ties and suits and frilly 60s dresses and the Smiths... Whatever. It was self conscious and annoying and kind of a turn off. She is sort of a heartless ball buster and he's a pussy. I've had my share of heartache but I didn't find either character particularly sympathetic.
this is a beautiful, funny movie. Worth watching multiple times. Zooey Deschanel has always been a 'perfect angel' as an actress, and this is the first time she became frightfully annoying (through her character, of course). And Gordon-Levitt (and director Webb) do a wonderful job of making us see 'love', Summer, and the relationship through Tom's eyes. A must-see. One of my top movies for 2009.
