If you want to know where the Fallout series got its inspiration from, it's A Boy And His Dog. The movie is a post apocalyptic tale, probably one of the grittiest of it's kind. Don Johnson stars as Vic, his travelling companion is a dog named Blood and he talks, but only Vic hears him. The year is 2024 and the world is a wasteland after World War 4 destroyed most of the inhabitants in 5 days, Vic And Blood survive by finding food, staying out of trouble and getting laid, strictly in order. It's a darkly comedic film, it gets pretty weird when Vic finds his way into an underground shelter. Also, that ending is pretty awesome.
