Amateur filmmaker Emre Akay is offered a casting job by Mehmet Demirtaş, who is on the lookout for an actress to play the leading role in his new film. Demirtaş also asks Akay to choose one of the candidates and follow her secretly in order to film her surreptitiously. Akay isn’t aware that in return, his interview with Demirtaş is also being filmed, and that he is already starring in A Film by Tuğra Kaftancıoğlu. As things get more complicated, the line between fiction and reality gets blurred gradually. Starting off as a simple casting job, this self-reflective story unfolds into a macabre and violent ‘making of’ of a peculiar film by Tuğra Kaftancıoğlu, directing “in the name of art”. Swinging between black humor and suspense, A Film by Tuğra Kaftancıoğlu is a dark and ironic look at filmmaking, acting and fame-seeking, told in documentary style realism. !f is delighted to introduce these two young Turkish directors and their ‘unknowing’ actresses! –!f Istanbul
