Just saw this film at the Filmoteca in Barcelona and it was nice to get back to the 60s and see the Beatles back then - The Music is still great and although some jokes/humour are a bit outdated it is still great fun to watch...
Quite simply, there is no better film about rock, about its original, defining principles. Anarchy, jovial sin, and laid-back hedonism, as well as a healthy contempt for the bourgeoisie. Lester's form provides the perfect outlet for the most powerful cultural force of the 60s. Matched with the obvious intelligence and hilarious wit of The Beatles, this film is one of the key 60s films, one of the most enjoyable ever.
its the bloody beatles, and plus its a pretty insightful look at the obsession with idols in culture.
Cool shots and funny lines. Soundtrack is a good soundtrack. Too long but understandable for typical Beatles arrogance. A fun film to watch every now and then. Much better than their following films which were all pretty awful up until the yellow submarine which was essentially stupidity itself.
The Beatle's first feature film is more than just an extended music video - in fact, the musical numbers are the least interesting part of the film. A rollicking, free-form absurdist comedy full of hilarious dry British humor. Director RIchard Lester keeps the comedic energy moving with breezy camerawork and great black and white cinematography. A wholly original classic.
