Synopsis

Set in 1967 Tunis, this tender comedy follows three teenage girls from different faiths who make a pact to lose their virginity, causing a rift between their fathers, who had been best friends. As the summer wears on, will the families find a way to tolerate one another’s differences and forgive? This provocative look at sex, religion and tradition in tense and changing times stars Sonia Mankaï, Ava Cohen-Jonathan and Sarah Pariente.

Férid Boughedir's "A Summer in La Goulette" in some way can sound like one of those "lose my virginity" films of the '80s except that the three women featured in the film are Muslim, Catholic and Jewish and takes place during the summer before the Arab-Israeli conflict of 1967. This film is anything but banal. You can't help but see the nostalgia through Boughedir's memories of a moment in time that no longer exists.
