...or how to convoluted a simple story. Marion Cotillard's bravura is the strongest hold.

I don't think Marion Cottillard will top this: passion, danger, madness in all manner of costume and disguise.

Audrey Tatou's best, even better than Amelie.

The shot where the gendarmes have come to recruit the farmer for the war and the wind blows across the grass is awesome. The score was pretty bland for a Jeunet film (I miss Yann Tiersen) but was still okay, if a bit predictable.

An extraordinary love story... an outstanding performance from Audrey Tautou, as usual

Some breathtaking scenes, fairy tale scenary . Visually, it deserves 5 stars. The plot may be a little confusing: at first, 3 of the 5 condemned to death looked very similar to me :). Anyway, it's a refreshing film, plenty of war anecdotes that sometimes seem unlikely. A childhood love, a tender story about hope and determination. I liked this film more than Delicatessen (even if it has a higher rating..here).

What's with the bad reputation Jeunet seems to have here ? No comments, no review. Amélie is losing fans too. A shame ! One of the few French movie makers who DARE to avoid cinema direct boredom.
