Great film. In the beginning it’s a joyful multi person piece, with everybody talking, with overlapping dialogue in an almost Altman-esque way. People are teasing one another and burst out into song and dance just like that. These people, this part of iranian society sure is modern and open. Is it not? When Elly suddenly disappears from the beach house, everybody starts to talk about her, and like in a very slow crescendo her reputation as an honorable woman is suddenly gone. There they are again, the mullahs and their perceptions about the female, even in this modern middle class crowd. Plus the film manages to be a mystery story as well, because you never know what really happend to her, and enough wrong trails are laid out. This is Asghar Farhadis 4th film, it will make you want to see the other three.
