Very funny (Kitano’s style) movie about the world of Art. Dealers have no ethics, customers have no taste, artists are insecure and confused… It’s hilarious how Machisu’s art gets worse, and less original, as he is lead by others’ opinions and concepts. The bonet he wears is a strong symbol of this imposing. Throughout the movie, good paintings are mixed with absurd and caricatural ones – an exercise to the viewer to tell them, perhaps? It’s so easy to be lost when it comes to “modern art”, if one does not have/trust his own taste.
As it usually happens with Kitano’s movies, this one is funny, enjoyable, and yet hits on the nail at the same time…
