yes. compared to other movies re: the beatles [ie. backbeat] this one's phenomenal.
This is my biggest guilty pleasure film. I see the flaws, the cheesiness, but it works for me. I always leave the film with a smile on my face, and love in my heart. I cheer at the characters highs, and feel for them at their lows. I love the tongue in cheek jokes for Beates fans, and it has a kinetic and chaotic feel that I feel represents the era, and it's ideas, very well. I don't like "Dear Prudence" though.
I don't understand the hate for the film. It is an entertaining film with a good story and other technical aspects. Taymor's vision is spectacular as she traces the life and development of this group of friends. I am not a music purist, so I don't know how it has "butchered" The Beatles. I feel that the film transcends by exploring how they affected American culture and society.
well, well, the soundtrack and the history gotta stuck in my head and all the time I sing the songs because I just can't get over this.
Enjoyed it the first time, but basically only because I like to sing along to the songs. It isn't as whimsical and as spectacular as I hoped it would be. Taymor wasn't able to pull the "show" til the credits.
like a 2 hour + episode of Glee, with a few interesting ideas and some decent covers, but not nearly enough to make up for the songs which they butchered. I'm all for beatles covers, but only in talented hands. That said I did like the "I want you" sequence and the "Revolution" sequence. But other than that it's the most tedious music video I've ever seen.
De los pocos musicales que he podido tolerar. Me gustó la cámara, el montaje y, por supuesto, que las canciones fuesen de los Beatles. Hay secuencias magnificas.
Definitely one of the worst movies I've ever ever ever ever ever seen. What the fuck is doing Bono there ruining "I Am The Walrus"! An extrme insult ot beatlemania: high school musical retards singing keane-like covers from one of the greatest bands ever. Son of bitches! They say the visual is awesome... the texture of my carpet is more colorful than those "copy-of-acidhouse" images. But that's my humble opinion.
I'm not sure which I hated more: the lesbian cheerleader singing "I Want to Hold Your Hand" or the pimps and prostitutes massacring "Come Together."
I have to say, I did enjoy this movie, perhaps because it was presented to me as 'a series of music videos' I wasn't expecting much of a linear narrative. It could've been stronger, and the film has immense fluctuations in energy and interest (due to the Gilliam-esque mania of other parts) But some of it worked well, e.g the Come Together scene with Jarvis Cocker and the sheer exuberance of A Little Help.
A lot of the numbers in this absolutely rape the Beatles' catalogue, but some of the visuals are just simply amazing.
Never before have I seen such a blatantly self-congratulatory movie. Seriously, it's a system of music videos strung together with a couple flashing lights and some choreography thrown in. I turned it off after 20 minutes, but I still want those 20 minutes of my life back.
lame. If you like this movie you have no taste in rock music, and must not like The Beatles very much.
This is something I could see myself watching numerous times. Not great cinema, but what is? So enjoyable... I love it.
