Este filme conta-nos o impacto e os dilemas de alguns dos alunos de uma escola onde se abateu uma tragédia que viria a deixar marcas em todos. Lida igualmente com o que acarreta ser popular e dar-se com os mais populares, colocando o dedo em muitos dos problemas que não são evidentes à superfície. Os bem comportados a serem corrompidos pelos que permanecem à margem dentro do circuito escolar.
Todo o filme apresenta-se num registo lento, hipnotizante, que progressivamente vai reforçando o drama dos conflitos que estão no cerne deste filme.
O realizador António campos, realiza aqui uma verdadeira obra-prima e este é ainda o seu primeiro e único filme, onde evidencia métodos em linha com o cinema de Stanley Kubrik mas não só, pois recordar-me-ia igualmente de Gus van Sant pelo ambiente também documental. Acredito que devido a não recorrer a artifícios de entretenimento, poderá não ser aliciante… mas recomendo a descoberta. Está aqui um grande filme e deveras pertinente.

A teenage rites-of-passage drama, AFTERSCHOOL vividly captures the corrosive omnipresence of web video footage for American teens. From violent You Tube-style clips to Internet pornography, our new media is creating a tangled web of confusion for the young people going through puberty. Among them is the skinny, socially awkward sophomore Robert (Ezra Miller), who already has developed a taste for rough porn. As two girls suffer fatal drug overdoses on campus, Robert inadvertently captures the tragedy with his video camera. When his video begins circulating, the atmosphere of paranoia and unease on campus grows, and he becomes increasingly troubled and withdrawn. But AFTERSCHOOL scratches gently at this phenomenon, rather than pushing to excess. I loved this director’s previous effort BUY IT NOW about the real life attempt of a young girl to sell her virginity on eBay.
