"What is he doing?" "FUTTERWACKEN'."
Not horrible, but once again Burton gets credited for his creativity when pretty much all of Wonderland has the exact same look.
Too sad that the film had dark colors(the cartoon is full of colors: yellow ,blue ...).However, I passed a good time to watch this film near my sister. Recommended
Although the visuals dazzle, it would be better if this was a direct adaptation of the book, as this Return to Oz tale instead steals its elements from such trilogies as Lord of the Rings and Narnia. Tim Burton did well making both Charlie books into a movie, but here he pushes his ego too far. Especially in the climax. Oh God, the climax.
Aw, fuck 'all, I forgot how bloody fuckin' awful the Futterwacken scene was! Jesus Christ! So.. HERE IT IS!: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_HGGqHe4yIw
A complete misread of Carroll's masterpiece, this Burton nightmare is at no time ever close to successful. Grotesque to look at, abysmally performed - Hathaway and Wasikowska come close to succeeding - and above all annoyingly shallow, this is a prime example of disaster. Burton needs to move on from his muse - Depp - and away from his working relationship with Carter to reestablish what made his work so great.
Anne Hathaway casually out-quirkied Johnny Depp who was mostly retreading and reusing old mannerisms and Crispin Glover who was handicapped by his costume. Mia Wasikowska held her own as Alice against the heavy weight stars. Visually, the movie looked good but didn't break any new ground. I was actually most impressed by the slowly growing mushrooms and vines framing the end credits. Lovely.
This movie has nothing going for it. Even without critizing Burton's dull style there's plenty to complain about. For it's alleged weirdness the film is too linear with no real sense of confusion. Where's the humor? the closest we get to a joke is some bullshit with the Hatter dancing. Where's Alice's interior monologues that could've been handled in a very cinematic way.And the action sequence sucks. Worthless.
I don't all the bashing over the recent Burton flicks, I think he finally is getting to make some good ones.
I expected far worse after what I heard of the movie, but the truth is that I would have prefer to expect far better from Mr. Burton. Some moments are pretty cool (visually, the first part is really good) but it also has AWFUL moments of Disney-cheesiness (like the final battle, the Jabberwocky...)
Most "Hollywood" relationships fail to last right? Maybe then Helena Bonham Carter will go back to acting in good films.
It could have been great, it SHOULD have been great, but when a script is so fucking mediocre as this it zaps all the wonder out of wonderland, leaving the least likeable Alice ever and a rare misstep by Johnny Depp even more obviously weak - i'm speaking as a fan of both Depp and Burton here (Ed Wood, what a movie!), these guys need to seriously reevaluate their relationship :/
In a very personal feeling... I think this is one of the very-very worst movies I've ever ever seen alongside with bullshittin' pieces of profound mediocrity like "Zapata", "Deuce Bigalow", "Universal Soldier", "2012" and "Scent Of A Wolfman"... I mean... "Woman". Tim Burton WAS a great and imaginative filmmaker. His new "stuff" is basically remakes and second-hand tributes to Roald Dahl and "What Dreams May Come".
I wish I could give this negative stars. Terrible on almost every level. Helena Bonham Cater's performance notwithstanding.
I just watched this and what a disappointing piece of drivel. I can't imagine what Burton was thinking. There are some interesting ideas in the story approach the actual result is trash. The score is a joke. The only good thing - some of the sets, but the 'effects' were childish and overdone. I've seen many, many Alice films, but this was the worst (and that includes the porno version). Mia W. is a non-factor.
The more I think about the more shocked I am at how terrible it is. That feckin' break dancing scene is the most embarrassing thing Depp has ever done, more so than Pirates. Ugh...
