Chow Yun-Fat started out as a television actor with very few action credentials. This is one of many examples of how great of a dramatic actor he can be. He is the Liam Neeson of Hong Kong, well before there was a Liam Neeson.
The film features great moments between him and his ‘son’ in the film and actress Sylvia Chang. They have great chemistry here, the divorced couple tension and history is very well portrayed. Mr. Chow is charming, charismatic and complex as Ah Long, a single father striving to keep a roof over his son’s head. Coupled with the reuniting of his ex-wife (Ms. Chang), who is a commercial director, Ah Long fights to hide his poverty from her. This film is one of those rare Hong Kong film where the story is forefront and well written.
