A picture of a Post-war Japan trying to rebuild in the face of changing values. Cliche, melodramatic and idiotic but also quite sentimental and touching. Some beautiful visuals and a wonderful use of CG which actually have a warmth to them and rarely feel artificial, a nice change. Although extremely obvious and far from subtle, one can't help but be moved by the honest portrayal of everyday folk in post-war Japan.
