Cine-phony made my day, sir.
Yeah, let's cast this total buffoon alongside F. Murray Abraham! That'll work wonders, right? Who cares if he can only do a cheesy American accent—Mozart was totally American, right? And while we're at it, let's make up a bunch of stuff about this dude and call it history! Oh, an thanks for the Oscars!
" I heard the music of true forgiveness filling the theater, conferring on all who sat there, perfect absolution. God was singing through this little man to all the world, unstoppable, making my defeat more bitter with every passing bar. "
now i definitely have an overdose of classical music, but it was a wonderful & dramatic piece of work.
A completely spellbinding cinematic experience, Forman weaves the life of Mozart from the view of Salieri, a rival composer, Forman weaves between an older Salieri and the life of Mozart beautifully, almost as if Forman himself was conducting one of Mozart's brilliant pieces. It's a cine-phony (get it? heh)
Fantastic performances, brilliant editing, and a wonderful film that I'll never need to watch again.
an almost flawless masterpiece, a 9/10 my review: http://lasttimeisawdotcom.wordpress.com/2012/08/01/last-film-i-saw-amadeus/
Just about every aspect of production value is top notch, but what's really important are the characters and story. Not only is the screenplay excellent, but F. Murray Abraham and Tom Hulce give two of the best performances I've ever seen. Considering this is a three hour long period piece, I expected to be bored to tears. I was impressed.
beautiful costumes, a charming laugh from Mozart, an occasional hilarious scene and Berridge's chest in everyone's face (and of course beautiful music) is all I could really find in this film. I think it was really drawn out, which is understandable I suppose, but it just wasn't for me.
Music History, lush cinematography, top notch performances, universal truths explored and some dick & fart jokes thrown in for good measure. A classic. (side note: Brilliantly parodied on Mr. Show with dueling marching band composers.)
Uproariously funny, with a good bit of drama thrown in, Amadeus is a terrific exploration of rivalries-gone-awry. Abraham and Hulce are a marvel to watch.
A strong and flamboyant movie! I think it's a perfect way to do a biography–through the eyes and mouth of the jealous friend. This way Mozart can be misunderstood and misinterpreted, remaining as a mystery, flooded with 'the voice of God'. Hulce is like Billy the kid, he dodged a bullet and went into hiding.
One of the most visually gorgeous films of all time and one of the greatest screen performances of all time from F. Murray Abraham. In addition to that, the entire cast is incredible, it's story and characters are deeply involving, and it is just simply an extremely entertaining movie. A masterpiece.
A Friend told me that it's all about the first hour , but I've to say it's all about the 15 mins ! WonderFul !
