Simply put: Karma bites. A sharp film on life and the consequences of our actions.

My favorite translation of the title would be 'You Love Dogs'. Works the best for me.

There's not much else to say about this great movie... But apart from performances, story, script... Did you pay attention to the blockings? So complex, so fluid, so well done people stay completely unaware of them. Such a great planning and execution (mostly during the first third of the movie). Way less in your face than "Children of Men", but even more effective.

I don't usually like to comment on posts, because I'm not a big forum thingy fan fan but you're so wrong about this compared to Children of men. That movie predicted the future-just look at any news today. And the audacity of those long takes.Sorry to say but cinema is "in your face" as much as it is subtitle and quiet.I've seen so many multi story films and this one didn't strike as special. In the same league as Crash or Magnolia. And Innaritu's been remaking it ever since.Same dodgy postmodern film that's been around for ages. But I haven't seen anything like Children of men in a while

I still cannot understand where did you see that I said that ¨Children of Men¨ is a bad movie, or even that this one is better. I neither said that because it was obvious and ¨in your face¨ with ¨Children of Men¨ it means that it was bad. The big difference is that, in ¨Amores Perros¨, those long takes and extremely complex blockings pass completely unaware; while in ¨Children of Men¨ is the main signature of the director and Lubezki for the movie's concept and style. Cuarón, in that incredible and brilliant scene in the last quarter of the film, even lets a splash of blood stay on the lens... Something that first I found brilliant and extremely brave, but that later on, re-thinking about it, made me realize that it only makes you perfectly aware that you´re watching a movie, instead of making you forget that there's a world outside what you're watching. ¨Children of Men¨ is a great movie, of course it is. But comparing ¨Amores Perros¨ to ¨Crash¨? You serious? ¨Traffic¨ is good, ¨Magnolia¨ is also really good, but in my opinion ¨Amores Perros¨ is beyond them. And that's why comments are there, to be able to comment, and give your opinions, without thinking they're statements. And thinking that multi-story films are ¨dodgy postmoderm¨ keep so many great movies out of your consideration, and it's just another way of approaching story telling visually. And please, don't take it personal, we're here to share opinions and to debate, not to feel insulted if somebody says something you don't agree with.

Excelent movie, from the story to the way it's filmed. I will have to disagree with Lefteris Becerra's pretentious review over this film.

i bought this movie on a total impulse. ive never heard of it and the only thing that drove me to it was gael garcia bernal, but this is probably in the top five movies ive seen in the spanish language. the cinemotography and the story were enthralling. it's ballsy way of telling life like it is in mexico city is ruthless but very accurate to what, i imagine, is real

It is frightening to see violence and ruthlessness incorporated into everyday situations like that, to see the characters wander around in a mean world where chances of improvement seem unlikely, and in the end, it is up to the animals to remind them of what humanity is all about. Cruel and uncompromising yet very intriguing storytelling.

"The Mexican Pulp Fiction." I've met lots of people that think anything made by "trashy, dirty Mexicans" ain't worth a damn because of their Third World standard of living and stereotypical roles in American society. Even though this film incorporates exactly these elements, to me the director was well able to take them as they were and create some excellent, emotionally evocative filmography.

A simplistic, banal ensemble of stories masqueraded as high brow cinema. Intellectually dishonest, if not overtly idiotic.

although I am appalled at the amount of animal cruelty in this film, i am pleased to see such honest representation of dog fighting. The film did a wonderful job of being unbiased and just showing it for how shitty and dark the world is.

The third story was a bit weak compared to the first two, but what we have here is relentless and gripping cinema. Well shot and passionate, there wasn't a dull moment in the 150 minute run time.

Brutal...just brutal. The grittiness isn't all bad, but I think it distracts from a bit of a simplistic plot that doesn't offer all that much commentary. Dunno, it felt a little pointless to me. Maybe I'm missing something. I wonder how this has shaped perceptions of Mexico and Mexico City? Even the richer model/magazine editor story wasn't pleasant. My brother and his wife raved about a recent trip there, though.
