A great well acted procedural court room drama. Despite the almost three hour runtime the film never lags.
A procedural that tries to transcend its procedural nature - which I like as I'm not a big fan of straight procedurals usually. I'm not convinced of the film's greatness until I watch it again, but there is certainly much talent and food for thought to be found within this production.
Probably cinema's greatest courtroom drama. An unbelievably great cast and wonderful performances all around, with Remick lingering in the mind as the film's most tantalizingly ambiguous presence. The long takes and tight compositions build incredible interest and suspense, while Preminger's level gaze rewards many repeat viewings. The fastest 2 hours and 40 minutes of your life.
HABISO: isto é unha película de abogados. Pero é a película de abogados máis entretida que se teña feita.
Not really much of a Preminger fan but have always enjoyed this film. Good story (pretty racy for its' time) amplified by great performances. James Stewart just perfect as the "country bumpkin lawyer", Lee Grant sexy and self aware, Ben Gazzara menacing and playful, and George C. Scott just right as the big city hired gun. The music score by Duke Ellington fits the mood of the film to a "T". Arthur O'Connell A+
Virtually flawless. Worth it alone for Jimmy Stewart's performance and the fact that he repeatedly says rape and panties. ;)
