Well, that's a shallow analysis of a film if I ever read one.
Twisted as fuck but pretty heart-wrenching though at some point I got pretty tired of it.
Really fucking twisted but very entertaining and I would find this more re-watchable than triers other work, great performances from the two leads, but I would say I prefer melancholia over this.
Emotional exploitation...blah blah blah... Catholic Guilt...blah blah blah...pretty pictures...blah blah blah...rampant misogyny...blah blah blah...scissored clit...blah blah blah...grow up von Trier!
accusations of Von Trier's misogyny are greatly exaggerated. grow up Jason Callen!
I'm fully grown. It's not an accusation, it's there in his films for anyone with a brain to see. He doesn't exactly try and cover it up.
Beautiful. Disturbing. Painful. Lars von Trier is on of the most challenging directors working today and "Antichrist" offers rich and fertile ground for interpretation and analysis.
Very true. Von Trier at his absolute best and most atmospheric. I agree with everyone so do they with me. :)
I originally associated the antichrist of the film to be him, Dafoe, more psychologically than anything, but as I am then surprised, the tables quickly turn within a minute or two, and there she is, exhibiting unprecented torture with sexual, satanic overtones. I'm not sure either capture what is the opposite of christ, or the anti-christ, but it is a look into the contrast between misogyny and witchcraft.
supremely disturbing. with the composition of surrealist still art, and the plot of a deranged sadist, this film is extremely visceral. Dafoe and Gainesbourg are haunting and jaw droppingly tragic. the residual psychological trauma is still making me flinch in the dark.
Still, it did intrigue me, it distorted my view. It scared me. i didn't see any traces of misogyny. i wouldn't recommend watching this film if you've recently lost a loved one, someone who is very dear to you. i waited for months till i finally got to see it.
there was a segment in the extra DVD (FR version) wherein a reporter asked Von Trier during the presscon what was his objective in making this film. He told the reporter in a very charming way: "You know what? You are all my guests here, and you wouldn't ask your host why he did this or that!" Perhaps, we are always waiting for the answers. We would like to know the director's purpose. In this case, there is none.
This movie is horrific,I find it almost completely worth merit has put a horrific image in my head. One could argue that by doing that it has achieved it's artistic purpose, but fuck that. I'm for completely disturbing images if I believe there will be some artistic pay off but I find none. What I got from this movie was don't be misogynistic, but all women are secretly witches. It is shot well though.
I didn't like "Antichrist" as much as the other von Trier movies I've seen (Breaking the Waves, Dogville) both of which I thought were brilliant. It is a really interesting and challenging (well, of course, it's von Trier) movie, much of it very beautiful.
Psychologically too distorted as Lars should be. OTT Shock value is sometimes boring. The opening scene music "lascia ch'io pianga"might be the key to solve what went wrong. He was arrogantly intellectual and could not let her weep. Such things always lie in the conflict between 2 genders. Seeing femal evil is the weakness of his thinking? Maybe..I enjoyed because of the similar atmosphere and rythm with Tarkovsky.
i hate this movie. nearly meaningless on a conceptual level. the symbolism, such as it is, is lazy and predictable (while thinking itself otherwise). fails on virtually every level as a genre film of any kind. a small, foolish film.
slow mo opera shower fuck baby splat opening sequence sucks william defoe's bareback wang
Very disturbing. The cinematography is excellent. Because of this film and Melancholia I love Charlotte Gainsbourg, she is definitely willing to get into her character and take risks.
Antichrist: the blunt symbolism makes this film seem like a satanic revision of Grimm's Fairy Tales.
Never thought I would love such a disturbing and misogynous film... but strangely I did. The opening sequence with Handel's Lascia ch'io pianga is a masterpiece. "Lascia ch'io pianga mia cruda sorte, e che sospiri la libertà. Il duolo infranga queste ritorte de' miei martiri sol per pietà."
