Ostensibly a documentary or a music video chronicling influential post-punk indie Chinese rock group P.K. 14’s first national tour, Li Hongqi’s latest provocation becomes a rumination on existential ennui that takes place on endless highways as band members sit in their tour bus and anonymous hotels. The director, who perversely does away with all forms of dialogue by replacing human interaction with various sounds of animal noises, gives us reprieve during scenes on the road with music from the group itself.
