How I regret the time I didn’t know Aki Karismäki films! It’s a similar feeling for Ozu’s films, which I was waked up by Criterion. As for Kaurismäki I only heard his name through Jarmusch interviews. Aki’s brother lives here in Brasil but that’s another story, Mika’s films are so different…
What can I say? I love almost all his films…
David Lynch was here in Brasil (october 2008) and he couldn’t say he knew many new directors but he mentioned Kaurismäki as an important one!
