Giorgio Pellegrini, a former left-wing activist turned terrorist has fled to Central America and fought with a guerrilla movement. Fifteen years later he is fed up with living in the jungle and decides to return to Italy. What he wants is to lead a comfortable bourgeois life in his native country. Michele Soavi, sometimes known as Michael Soavi (born July 3, 1957) is an Italian filmmaker.
Born in Milan, Italy in 1957, Michele Soavi’s parents separated when he was little and he lived with his mother who remarried a painter. Interested in his stepfather’s interest in painting, Soavi began an interest in creative arts in his school. During his teenage years, he decided that the cinema was his true calling after attending several movie screenings and developing a taste for acting. After graduating from high school, Soavi took acting lessons at Fersen Studios in Milan. His first acting role was an extra in the movie Bambule (1979) which was directed by Marco Modugno. Buonissimo lavoro di Soavi che si avvale di una bella sceneggiatura(rare nell'odierno cinema nostrano) e sforna un noir di livello che riesce a colpire sia per l'ottima costruzione di alcune scene sia per la terribile spirale di marciume e cattiveria in cui sprofonda il protagonista.Grande Placido,canzoni azzeccate ed una regia curata e mai troppo invasiva.Avercene di più di film italiani così.4*
Bel noir italiano, diretto ottimamente da Soavi e che forse pecca un po' solamente per una prova attoriale non eccellente da parte di alcuni personaggi. Placido è bravissimo, la colonna sonora è azzeccata (e così anche il titolo che si ricollega alla chiusura del film) e le scene non sono mai edulcorate e tendono a sorprendere continuamente per la cattiveria del protagonista.
