I imagine the writers freaking out in a board room. "It's a recession! Whatever pays the bills! I need to feed my family!" while an unhelpful VP delivers a copy of the game and says "It's all there, ladies and gentleman. Make showbiz magic!" After popping adderall and pulling their hair out, the writers throw together the Titanic, Transformers, a pinch of Star Wars, & Navy commercials with a quippy, sassy black lady.
It doesn't feel right watching this movie without a Republican in office. Peter Berg is a one-trick pony when it comes to directing event movies but "Battleship" is anchored by a knowingly-lunkheaded, Keanu Reeves-esque performance from Taylor Kitsch and a hell of a lot of exposions. At 130 minutes it's too long for its own good, but then again there's a scene where a black guy with steel legs fist-fights an alien.
You certainly can’t accuse Battleship of taking the idea of adapting a board game to the big screen too literally. Indeed, the Hasbro board game is translated ever so literally to the cinematic language… read review
