I really enjoy this movie. Jack Black is usually a boring loser but in this one him and Mos Def are a perfect duo. I also love the "spectators contribue to movies" aspect so that you can really appreciate the underlined meaning or, in my case, just appreciate the good quality humor and recover peacefully from a mindkilling hangover.
A film that does not seem, at first, to take itself seriously. After that, the thought comes through and it leaves new ones with the viewer. Great film (and cute on a hardcore level).
Watching Be Kind Rewind makes me realize that, um... well, Michel Gondry, I may not like your Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, but your comedies--like this one and like The Green Hornet--I like 'em!
Gondry's films always require a strong imagination, but no matter how hard I try I simply cannot envision a world wherein I could enjoy watching Jack Black. At least Jean-Michel Bernard's score is pretty good.
This could've been good. It could've been really good. Sadly, Gondry is not a very good writer.
I found this to be one of the most bizarre and refreshing comedies to come out of the United States in ages. The casting was audacious and paid off in an entirely unexpected way. It is a wacky ode to the importance of both art and its effect on community in troubled times, or perhaps it was another Jack Black vehicle in disguise...either way I enjoyed myself to the end of this one.
Such an amazing film, mos def and jack black were wonderful i loved this movie
A fun and chaotic paean to the joy of D.I.Y. culture and forsaking mersh culture. Punk fucking rock.
I honestly did not like this movie. I was under the impression that it was going to be about what it was advertised as. Granted, the Fats Waller story was rather wistful and nostalgic as most say it is. But the fact of the matter is, is that what turned me off from this film so much is that it shifted gears in terms of story so quickly and abruptly, I just ended up disliking it.
I guess watching Eternal Sunshine will raise your expectations. Oh, well.
Very fun to watch, had some good laughs. I actually didn't like how it evolved to a serious film towards the end, it felt strange. Still great to watch them re-enact classics of Hollywood.
Such a promising film, enjoyable and organic, fresh and never losing a unique touch. The casting was just the right amount of quality, never losing sight that its a film made by an independent director, an aura felt at every second. Sigourney Weaver's surprise appearance is more than memorable, and you can obviously tell Melonie Diaz is an NY native. A story that could have easily been set in Paris. "Amelie", anyone??
A mockery to the cinema. But must admit it was funny. Again, don't take it seriously you might find it entertaining.
"Be kind, rewind" is the best Michel Grondy's movie for the moment. It's original and very funny. I laugh at loud when I watched at the cinema because it parodies many movies: Ghost busters, Rocky... I recognize I haven't watched the movies it parodies but I know more or less the plot so it's funny too. Another important thing is one of the best performances of Jack Black. The end scene is great, by the way.
