this is one of the reasons i love Vienna and why i am grateful to be here. this film is magic and wonderment in itself. it is all talking, yes, but, the places, yes, the places... they must be cliches, touristy, but i was charmed.
This is a movie built on dialogue. I watched reluctantly and was both charmed and embarrassed to see myself as me and my friends were 15 years ago: pseudo-intellectuals on a bender. The best moments came near the end when the acting depicted so well what it's like to fall in love so easily. I'm sure I'd have hated it back in 1995. I wouldn't have wanted to have been so exposed.
the dialogue is wonderful and insightful, i want my life to be a carbon copy of this film.
This is such a unique and even naive film. I loved the dialogue, and of course the performances by Hawke and Delpy. It's fascinating. I love the New Wave approach, especially because of the on-location filming. It is sort of a Cleo de 5 a 7 for the '90s.
The thing about this film is that it is not an American film, at least not structured like one. More influenced by early French New Wave than the generic Hollywood romantic movies. I would not say all the conversations the characters have are interesting, but they feel honest, which is the better than interesting in this kind of film. It keeps you guessing and on your feet every step of the way.
Unique movie that mostly all dialogue-based. But it is far from dull because every conversation between these too is greatly intriguing. It has realistic acting and intelligent script that builds the characters through their thoughts and feelings. It didn't need any unnecessary subplots to make it interesting. The meetings of these two is so sweet that I wonder if this could ever really happen in real life!
What a miracle of a movie. Its amazing how entertaining, mesmerizing and romantic a film can be with so little action happening. Its just two people talking and yet it hold your attention from start to finish.
Have it here one of films that always excited me see it. The thoughts of characters are the representation the glow of life, the beauty of the destination, the quotidian love embodied on the big screen.
So thankful for movies like these, so real "I believe if there's any kind of God it wouldn't be in any of us, not you or me but just this little space in between. If there's any kind of magic in this world it must be in the attempt of understanding someone sharing something. I know, it's almost impossible to succeed but who cares really? The answer must be in the attempt." It's a blessing to have such a connection!
Realy great movie, I really enjoyed it, I loved the relationship between the two leads and i really liked the style and also i really liked the look of vienna, I also though that the story was really unique showing two people who never met before and becoming really good friends in just one day was really intresting to me
Turned out to be better than I expected. Even though sometimes I felt bored, some of the dialogues were beautiful (especially in the graveyard, or before they make love under moonlight) Also, I really liked the poet guy, if I were Celine, I would go with him :) James is kind of irritating(E. Hawke too, as actor; J. Delpy is much much better). A different, relaxing romantic film. Not just emptiness, it makes you think
wow Ethan Hawke was amazing in this, did i just say that? yea i did. Julie's good too. Love the minimal nature of the film, and how it's all really just about time. Really fascinating how the dialogue mimics that
I am so glad that near the end of this film they weren't able to just say "Add me on facebook!".
