Still, a wonderful movie.
An excellent sci-fi movie with strong film noir elements. Great image of bleak, rainy industrial city. Remarkable scenes and mood. I mean MOOD. It was the biggest advantage of the movie. The acting was really convincing(Rutger Hauer!) and cinematography was just marvelous(lights, image of the city). Ridley Scott once again shows that he's a good director.
In my opinion, the best science fiction movie. Not any other had explain compare and difference from human and machines as well as this film. Let me say that there's also a great love story. Unmissable.
tenerone! I agree with Luca, you can also see this movie as a great noir.. so, there is no reason to refuse to watch it!
This film, even though it is a cult-classic (and deservedly so), is empty and soul-less, with very little for the viewer to take away from it. Sitting through the film without looking at your watch is an act of masochism. It's hard to care about the humanity of these characters when there is no reason for you to care about them or even find them interesting..
Ridley Scott's seminal sci-fi epic presents a grim vision of the near future, where human-like androids, known as "replicants," are considered enemies and hunted down by "blade runners" who fear an uprising. Original theatrical features grating, film noir-esque narration that smacks of studio interference, an issue later rectified in Ridley Scott's alternate cuts.
great design & visual & sound effects but I am feeling a lack of emotions. All I can say about the film that harrison ford is extremely great android in many ways. I was expecting much more. 3 stars + 0,5 more for city lights and all those synthesizers which surround our ears.
"ass clown" is the funniest thing we've ever been called, it would be great if comments could be liked here. If you want insane costumes please see Juliet of the Spirits (Fellini), also Medea (Pasolini). Sadly, it would appear we're not big on hair.
Brilliant Sci-Fi all about emotions...and the cast are mainly androids. Go figure haha Says a lot about the humans portrayed
Tied with Lawrence of Arabia for the movie I've seen most often. It's still perfect and a highlight of art in the 20th century. (This time was number 2 with the final cut.)
"The whole violent tale can be read as a parable in which robot slaves, all mentally and physically superior to those who create and command them, are forced to destroy one another." -Jonathan Rosenbaum. Stands with A.I. as the greatest philisophical work on machines (androids), and their relation to humanity, probing humanity itself. If one can feel, if one has memories, then what separates it from man?
The most powerful scene is when Roy meets his creator. Creation killing God for all his mistakes has power of a biblical parable. Philosophical questions asked in sci-fi noir movie with Vangelis soundtrack - perfect combination.
"Creation killing God for all his mistakes has power of a biblical parable." That's a pretty damn good analysis.
not a masterpiece, but a very impressive piece of genre cinema. the mixture of science fiction with noir, with the beautiful visuals make this something unique. the performance of daryl hannah was also superb. however, it missed something, an extra factor that tarkovsky managed to tap into with solaris or kubrick with 2001.
I disagree :) Personally, I think that noir style, visual side of this movie and Vangelis music gives that movie extra factor, but still the most important thing is the humanistic message. And Rutger Hauer made his best performance here.
