Up there with Kane as far as unprecedentedly perfect debut features go. I'd be surprised if the Coens put out a film as lean, mean, and pungent as this at this point in their career. Masterpiece.

Kinda stupid, but in a good way.

Great little film. It's nice to see how far they have come.

John Getz does his best to ruin the whole movie. Otherwise the cast is great.

One of the most underrated Coens films. I really like it.

The Coens' neo-noir debut and a strong one at that. It's a "creeper" of a film, one that is likely to pull you back in to re-watch.

I was finally able to add this film to my collection. I think it was one of the only Coen Brothers' movies I didn't have. Fortunately for me, unfortunately for them, Blockbuster is closing down two locations near my house. I have been going to each one every few days and I'm finding great deals and even mis-marked blu-rays for $4.99. Anyway...Blood Simple for $1.99 was hard to pass up.

The roots of arguably the greatest pair of directors of their era; a brutal, twisty, neo-noir classic

After watching so many of Coen's work, I didn't expect this movie to be "normal" in a bad way. Right before this, I watched Raising Arizona and I enjoyed that. Blood Simple caught me off guard. It's the most brutal of all Coen movies, but it's sadistic sometimes also. I enjoyed it's pure brutal thinking. Very realistic . Humor has a strong presence.. I'm not sure it's greatness, but its great fun.

Blood Simple has astonished me for some complicated reason which I find tough to elaborate. All I could think of when the movie ended was that I wanted to watch this again as soon as possible!

Noir-ish: when Ray was lying down in the dark it reminded me of Burt Lancaster in "The Killers" - and I wonder if David Lynch was paying tribute to this movie when he shot "Lost Highway".

How to shoot a Film Noir in 1984 ? Ask the Coen brothers, they dit it. With class. They just added to the classic recipe an ounce of black humor, two drops of unrealism, a pinch of brogue and some variations about the word "Blood" which is not as simple as one could imagine. Shake a little, allow to simmer gently during 94 minutes and you'll get the near perfect spaghetti Film Noir. Highly recommended.

I must say I was a little disappointed in this. Granted it's one of the last Coen Bros.' movies I have yet to see and its reputation precedes it, and yet...it left me a little cold. Very stylish but not much warmth.

The Coens Bros were clearly talented from the get go! This is one of their best IMO. In style and quality it is up there w/ Fargo, and No Country.

I just want to say that this film has possibly the best final 30 seconds of any other.

WOW. An amazing film debut from the Coen's foreshadowing their greatness. Calculating, violent, beautiful, manipultaive. All these things simpy rolled into one.
